Elephant cow behaving unusually.

The STS team in South Africa were asked to assist the local veterinarian in examining this Elephant cow on a reserve.

The cow has been acting abnormally for the last few months and an injury was suspected either to her tusks, feet or other parts of her body.

After a thorough examination of her body, soles of her feet and radiographs of both of her tusks, it was decided to remove her tracking collar, as that might be the cause of her aberrant behaviour.

The reserve staff will monitor her closely for the next few weeks, to see if there is any change in her behaviour, but at least we have ruled out the most common issues. We will update you on this, as and when we progress.
